Among the most serious environmental issues facing our beautiful country is erosion of our agricultural lands and deforestation. Deforestation continues to progress rapidly and much of the agricultural land and forests are irreversibly damaged. Much of our farm land has been seized by the current regime and taken over by people who do not know how to cultivate and produce crops that once made Zimbabwe the ‘bread basket of Africa.’ I will work with University agricultural departments and seek help for redeveloping our land to produce food for our people and for the world. I will work with experts across the world to reverse the damage of DDT (said to be the highest concentrations of this poison!) in our soil and help jump start the agricultural industry to benefit Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe’s air is polluted by vehicle and industrial emissions and water is polluted from mining and use of fertilizers. Our cities produce .5 million tons of solid waste per year. I will do better and work to institute regulations on these emissions and pollution so that the people of Zimbabwe are protected. You deserve clean air and water and I will make that happen.
I will also work to protect our native species of plants and animals, many of which are becoming endangered or extinct. Once I restore the human rights to all Zimbabweans and restore order and economic prosperity, I will ensure that our national treasures are safe and protected.
